Planning drawings and shaft diagrams.

Schematic plan and section diagrams showing the key dimensions and equipment locations for a typical lift installation. Use these to understand the space your lift needs.

Schematic Diagrams

How a lift fits in the shaft

These diagrams show the key elements of a typical machine-room-less traction lift installation. Actual dimensions vary by configuration. Use the Size Guide for verified dimensions, or submit your drawings for a project-specific review.

Plan view: Side counterweight

CarCWTShaft widthDepth
The counterweight sits beside the car, reducing shaft depth but increasing shaft width. Car and counterweight are separated by a divider.

Plan view: Rear counterweight

CarCWTShaft widthDepth
The counterweight sits behind the car, reducing shaft width but increasing shaft depth. Useful when the shaft is narrow but deep.

Section view: Shaft, pit and overhead

MachineCarOverheadTravelPit
The pit houses buffers and safety clearances. The overhead provides room for the car at its highest position and for the machine. Both vary with speed.

Landing entrance and door arrangement

Door openingDoor widthDoor height
The landing entrance includes the door panels, frame and sill. Door width and height must suit the car size and the traffic requirements. Centre or side opening arrangements are available.

Submit your plans for review

Schneider offers shaft-planning assistance: send us your architectural drawings, lift specifications and project requirements, and we will review potential lift arrangements and the space required. Structural design and final approval remain the responsibility of your project engineer and certifier.

Every Schneider lift is engineered for the project it serves. Each installation is configured to the applicable Australian Standards, National Construction Code and state regulatory requirements, with compliance confirmed through project-specific design, certification and registration.
